Marathon Clinic News 04/18/17


Group Leader Wendy Gibson has run 18 marathons and 4 ultras. She has been with PMC for 8 years including the last 6 as a group leader. Wendy's biggest reward is seeing the runners she's run with all summer cross the finish line. She credits PMC training for her own and others continuing success.

This weekends' training run meets at Kelley Point Park off Marine drive at 8 am and will feature a 6, 8 or 10 mile double out and back along Marine Dr The training run is open to anyone wishing to run with the group. Please leave your headphones, dogs and baby joggers at home. Please bring your water bottle.

If you have raced, go to and get your marathon goal based on your race times. Groups are led by volunteer experienced marathoners. Groups range from those able to run a marathon under 3 hours to those wanting to run 5+ hours.


To keep with the Portland Marathon spirit of volunteering, we ask runners training for free to volunteer to help with aid stations at the training runs. We ask you to volunteer one time during the six month training period. The marathon provides all the supplies, but runners sometimes bring treats like jelly beans and gummi bears. The training runs will have aid stations starting in May mostly supplied by the sponsors. The first volunteers needed are for June 3. This 7, 9 or 10 mile run will be April 29 at 8 am at Athleta Brewery Blocks, Portland . For directions to the start see . The doors will be open at 7:30 am. The $125 marathon clinic package includes the Saturday long run, a midweek coached run or track session , the new edition of "Marathoning Start to Finish", a personalized online training schedule and log and a micro fiber Portland Marathon Training Clinic shirt . The midweek runs will meet Thursdays 6pm starting in June. Runs will include fartlek, hill runs and track workouts to prepare runners to run or race the marathon. All clinic participants can learn all about marathoning through the "on demand" video webcasts. Topics include training plans, nutrition, physiology, psychology, flexibility/strength and speedwork.
