Marathon Clinic News 02/21/2018


Diane is looking forward to directing runs and coaching for the Clinic again. Certified running coach and endurance runner for a decade, Diane Lechner loves to run. She has 30+ marathons and ultras under her belt and looks forward to running many more. "The Portland Marathon is definitely one of the best", Diane said. As a graduate of the Portland Marathon Clinic seminars herself, she set a PR of 3:12, more than 1 hour improvement over her first. "As a coach and director, I really enjoy helping runners stay healthy, make good choices and meet their goals," says Diane. "With Portland Marathon Clinic's coaching and training plan, marathon day will feel like a victory lap."

As head coach and run director, Diane Lechner will be the Head Coach and Run Director for 2018. She will be in charge of the runs and leading pace groups whenever possible. Retired coaches Warren & Patti Finke will make cameo coaching appearances when they return from Kona. Physical Therapist and Coach DeeAnn Dougherty will be at many free training runs and most Clinic track nights to lend her expertise.

The 2018 Portland Marathon Training Clinic prepares beginning runners as well as those who want to improve performance. Free long, slow training runs will take place every Saturday morning starting April 7 (see link above).
Register for the Clinic and have more fun while coaches take the guesswork out of your training with:

Register for the clinic before the kickoff to receive your training schedule before the April 7 run. For about the cost of a pair of running shoes, first-time trainee registration is $150. Returning runner registration is $125. If you are a first-time trainee signed up for the 2018 Portland Marathon or Half, enjoy the returning runner rate with proof of Marathon or Half registration. The FREE Kickoff Run for the 2018 Portland Training Clinic will be April 7 at 8AM at Mountain Hardwear, 722 SW Taylor, downtown Portland. Mountain Hardwear will offer post run refreshments. Please leave headphones, dogs and baby joggers at home. This will be the first of weekly training runs that take place Saturday mornings. The first run offers a 4, 6 or 8 mile run on the waterfront. There will be a wide range of pace groups led by some of Portland's most experienced marathoners for marathon goals from 3 hours to 5+ hours. The clinic will provide a chart to help you connect to your proper pace group. Volunteer pace group leaders will help you stay safe, run the right pace and have fun. Come run with us!
