ADVANCED Marathon Clinic Starts June 18th

Achieve a faster, better marathon by participating in the Advanced Marathon Training Program. This 16 week program is for experienced marathoners running either the Portland Marathon or other October, November marathons. The coaches are RRCA certified running coaches with over 25 years of experience coaching marathoners. They will guide the runners to set and achieve their marathon goals while training in a fun and social group environment.

The ultimate goal is to get each runner to the marathon start line prepared, rested, and healthy to run a better, faster marathon. Runners will be given a complete individualized online schedule and log with daily runs, distance and paces. The program will focus on the two major components of marathon training, the long run and marathon specific speedwork. Participants use the Portland Marathon Training Clinic free Saturday runs as their long runs for the week, (see free run info on this page). Speedwork sessions will be done as a group Thursday evenings at 6 pm at the Duniway track. The plan is to build strength and endurance, gradually add some speed, then finish with marathon specific speedwork.

Prerequisites:

  • Marathon Experience - need to have run at least one prior marathon
  • Pace - all paces and goals welcome from under 3 hours to over 5 hours.
  • Current training level - a minimum mileage base of 30 miles a week, recent long run of 13 -14 miles.

Features:

  • Thursday Group Runs - meet Thursday evenings at 6 pm at Duniway park from June 18 through Oct 1. The runs start with an easy group warm up and end with an easy cool down. Workouts include plyometrics, fartlek or speedplay, hill runs, intervals and pace runs. Paces will be individual and range from 5K race pace to specific marathon pace runs in the final peaking phase.
  • Saturday Group Runs - long runs will be Saturdays at 8 am from various locations with the Portland Marathon Training Clinic. These runs feature pace group run leaders and aid stations on marked courses. (see free run info on this page)
  • Online Schedule and Log - individualized based on ability and current fitness level.
  • Online Features after log in - virtual marathon clinic seminars, core strength workout, stretch and strengthen library, maps of training route, shoe log and training and injury FAQ's.

The cost of the program will be $60 and includes the online features plus the Thursday workout with the coaches. The registration is either online or in person. Refunds will not be available after June 16 and will require a $10 handling fee.

The coaches will need a working email address to be able to contact you with messages. Participants are encouraged to communicate directly with the coaches either in person at the Duniway workouts or via email
