The Portland Marathon Clinic offers programs leading to the successful completion of the Portland Marathon or other fall marathon. Established in 1984 the Clinic has helped thousands of runners to sucessfully complete their first marathon. 100's of others have achieved their personal bests. It provides proven, safe and supported programs. It is the sanctioned official training program for the Portland Marathon.

Half Marathon training will lead to finishing either the Portland Half marathon or other summer/fall half marathon.

Marathon/Half Marathon Clinic

Our Clinic is intended for novices with little or no previous marathon experience to experienced marathoners trying to improve their performances. We have 5 levels of training programs for those running as few as 10 miles/week to those running as many as 50 miles/week. All training is individualized based on the runners experience and ability. Clinic members receive:

  • Online video seminars
    • On demand video webcasts you can watch at your own leisure.

      Webcasts cover all steps to successful training and racing. Topics include injury prevention and treatment, marathon physiology, sports nutrition, psychological preparation, race planning and recovery.

  • Access to our certified coaches
    • Our coaches are certified by the Road Runners Club of America and have over 100 years of experience coaching runners of all abilities. Members get email and direct access to our coaches at training runs.
  • "MARATHONING - START TO FINISH"
    • A 200 page training/racing guide with 5 training levels from novice to advanced.
  • A personalized online training schedule and log
    • A 30 week daily schedule based on your current training and fitness.
  • A Portland Marathon Training Clinic shirt
    • Technical microfiber running shirt.
  • Weekly Saturday morning long training runs
    • For the Marathon trainee, we provide group training runs every Saturday beginning in April. Courses are marked and 12 group leaders serve groups of all abilities. Aid is provided on the course for runs longer than 10 miles. Bring along your dry clothes, snack and favorite replacement drink for afterwards. All runs start at 8AM.
  • Weekly Thursday evening sharpening runs starting in June
    • Meet Thursday evenings at 6 pm at Duniway park starting in June. The runs start with an easy group warm up and end with an easy cool down. Workouts include plyometrics, fartlek or speedplay, hill runs, intervals and pace runs. Paces will be individual and range from 5K race pace to specific marathon pace runs in the final peaking phase.
    The clinic package is $100.

    Our coaches are certified by the Road Runners Club of America.

    Saturday Runs

    For the Marathon trainee, we provide group training runs every Saturday beginning in April. These runs are free for those who are not Clinic members provided they volunteer to help with 1 aid station at one of our Saturday runs during the training. Aid is provided on the course for runs longer than 10 miles. Bring along your dry clothes, snack and favorite replacement drink for afterwards.
